Southwest Newspapers seeks students for unpaid multimedia editorial internships. Responsibilities and learning areas to include: writing and photographing features and news stories and short items for print, web and online platforms, as well as creating photo slideshows and short videos; compiling, editing and posting community events and reader-contributed content for print and online; creating and/or contributing to Southwest Newspapers’ blogs and Facebook and Twitter accounts.
In-office hours are flexible as we encourage mobile journalism. However, we also believe strongly in the importance of spending time in real life with sources, community members, coworkers and editors. Hours can vary but intern should expect to contribute between 10 to 20 hours per week.
To apply: Send the following to Melissa Gilman at mgilman@swpub.com: a cover letter describing pertinent classes, skills and experiences and two samples of written work. Applicants with a blog, videos, Twitter account or other online work should include links to those items. Students must earn academic credit for the internship.
