Editorial Intern: Magazines and Specialty Publications
Students will learn about the process of creating magazines and other specialty/niche publications through educational opportunities and assignments. Write, edit and fact-check for print and online publications. Start conversations with readers through our social media channels. Write a blog, organize an event or shoot photos for a story. We can use your particular skills and passion. Assignments will be for a variety of titles, including: Savvy.mn Magazine, which is a monthly women's publication; Edible Twin Cities Magazine, which focuses on the local food community and publishes six times a year; and Dockside Minnesota, a quarterly lake lifestyle and recreation magazine.
Applicants should demonstrate writing ability through samples or published work, as well as an interest in the topics we write about. The best applicants will have a demonstrated passion for writing and media, will have taken several classes in a related field and be interested in and curious about trends and popular culture.
Hours & Pay: Hours are flexible. This is an unpaid internship for which students are required to register for and earn academic credit.

Editorial Intern: News
Southwest Newspapers seeks students for unpaid multimedia editorial internships. Responsibilities and learning areas to include: writing and photographing features and news stories and short items for print, web and online platforms, as well as creating photo slideshows and short videos; compiling, editing and posting community events and reader-contributed content for print and online; creating and/or contributing to Southwest Newspapers’ blogs and Facebook and Twitter accounts.
In-office hours are flexible as we encourage mobile journalism. However, we also believe strongly in the importance of spending time in real life with sources, community members, coworkers and editors. Hours can vary but intern should expect to contribute between 10 to 20 hours per week.

Editorial & Advertising Intern: Graphic Design
Southwest Newspapers offers academic internships in graphic design, including in advertising and editorial projects. We seek highly motivated interns who can learn new skills quickly. The best applicants will be familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite, web page design, photography and general design principles.
We publish or produce three magazines, seven weekly newspapers and numerous websites and other print products. Interns have many opportunities to engage in hands-on learning with experienced professionals. We also look forward to learning about emerging trends and technologies from our interns.
